Richard Karsten

Dr. Richard Karsten is a Professor of Mathematics at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada. He has a Bachelor’s in Math from the University of Waterloo and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Alberta.

For over a decade, Dr. Karsten and his colleagues at Acadia have been working on examining the potential of tidal power in the Bay of Fundy. His research is focused on using numerical models of the tides and currents in a number of different applications, ranging from resource assessment to environmental impacts. More recently, his worked has focused on combining field measurements with numerical simulations. Dr Karsten is currently the Principal Investigator on the Environmental Monitoring, Modelling and Forecasting Infrastructure for Instream Tidal Energy project.
