Marcos Lafoz-Pastor


Marcos Lafoz Pastor got his Ph.D in Electric Engineering in 2005. Since 2008, he is leading the Unit of Electric Power Systems in the Public Research Centre CIEMAT in Spain. Previously, he worked in the Transport Studies Centre of the Public Research Centre CEDEX, in Madrid. In 2005 he was granted with a Fulbright Award to stay abroad for one year as Visiting Professor at Michigan State University (USA). He has been lecturer during 17 years in the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, in Spain, and he continues giving training courses for that University and also for other entities, such as the Escuela de Organización Industrial.

His professional activity is focused in the fields of energy and electric drives. In particular, related to ocean energy his expertise is in the power conversion and electric grid integration of heave point absorber type of wave energy converters. He has participated in several projects with the industry, in the design, development and commissioning of wave energy converters and PTOs.

Additionally, he is the coordinator of the CYTED thematic network REMAR “Opportunities for grid integration of Wave Energy in Ibero American countries”, with 13 countries and 135 researchers currently involved.
