Marcos Lafoz is doctor in Electric Engineering by the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Since 2008 he is the Head of the Unit of Electric Power Systems in the Research Centre on Energy, Environment and Technology (CIEMAT) in Madrid. He is involved mainly in projects in collaboration with the industry and his areas of expertise are advanced power electronics, electric machines and control applied to electric drives used in energy generation and storage. He has participated in several projects related to the development and commissioning of power take-offs for wave energy generation.
He is also the coordinator of a thematic network in the Ibero-American Programme of Science and Technology for the Development (CYTED), named “REMAR: Opportunities of Integration in Ibero-American Electric Grids of Ocean Energies”, integrating 13 countries and around 130 researchers.
Finally, he is involved as well in training activities related to ocean energy and standardization activities in the CTN223 committee.
