Experience the naval and fishing tradition of the Basque Country!!
Monday, 17/10/2022 4:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.
ICOE – OEE 2022 is organising a visit to two museums: the ALBAOLA Basque Maritime Factory and MATER narrate the historical naval and fishing tradition of the Basque Country. The visit will start with the ALBAOLA Basque Maritime Factory museum, an innovative space where artisanal maritime technology is recovered and valued. The Maritime Factory is the place where impossible navigations are born and from where they set sail, seeking knowledge through experimentation, thus forming part of the Basque Maritime Heritage. The star of the Albaola is the reconstruction of the historic whaling ship San Juan, sponsored by UNESCO. Then, revive the MATER fishing legacy, as a Cantabrian inshore tuna vessel, where you will learn how fishermen work and live. You will discover the daily life of our fishermen in each of the corners of the boat, which will take you to the fishing reality. Test the effort of lifting a fishing rod and savour a tuna pintxo while enjoying the view. These visits will take place on Monday afternoon, October 17, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The visit includes tickets to the museums and transport from Donostia/San Sebastián to Pasaia and back. Price: €40/person.

For lovers of geology and Game of Thrones TV series!
Friday, 21/10/2022 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
ICOE – OEE 2022 is organising a boat tour through the impressive Flysch of Zumaia. The 13 kilometres of cliffs of the UNESCO Geopark of the Basque Coast, guard a spectacular formation of rock layers called Flysch. Like a great encyclopedia, they show us more than 60 million years of Earth history. Geologists and visitors can walk along these cliffs or take a boat tour and travel back in time to discover, for example, the thin black layer that is evidence of the impact of a large asteroid and the great extinction of dinosaurs, approximately 65 million years ago. The setting is so spectacular and unique, that it served as a background stage for the production of the Game of Thrones TV series.
The visit offers a boat ride to admire the flysch from a unique point of view. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to visit these rock formations up close. The visit will take place on Friday, October 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The cost of the visit includes transport to Zumaia and return to Donostia/San Sebastián and boat ride. Price: €40/person.
